My mother is from lakhimpur kheri, was married off at the age of 17.5 yrs. She was good in studies but never got a chance to pursue her studies further. Due to chronic illness my father passed away when she was only 30, in the span of 12 yrs she suffered with domestic violence, mental abuse but stood by my father till his last breath. My father did not save a single penny and left behind two kids aged 10,12 (my brother and me). As the famous dhirubhai Ambani story goes, she started her journey out of the kitchen in the world, fighting with all the odds of what a widow can or cannot do. She started off by carrying a bag of clothes, and going from one beauty parlour to the other, on a margin of 20-50 rs. She is an amazing cook and used to do catering for small birthday parties. Today, she has her own food cart, a staff of 20 people under her, and is constantly involved with programs working towards the upliftment of underprivileged women, inspiring so many young women like me.
